I do not get tied up in the theatrics the way you and others have. This is the correct timing and circumstances. Your points are valid but the process has to play out. The exposure of Carney is the big draw for me ! His rhetoric about “ dangerous and divided “, the lame duck rally cry, his announcement about more immigrants ! I hope these positions motivate more of the fence sitters to vote against him !
IMO Smith has taken a page from the “Art of the Deal “. She is giving Carney more rope to hang himself with !
Neither of these individuals are eligible to vote in the referendum in Alberta as they do not have status as residents of Alberta (Albertans). Their involvement in Alberta's referendum is analogous to foreign interference in Canada's DEMOCRACY. It is also analogous to the First Nations, those residents in Canada or provincial territories who do not call themselves nor consider themselves to be "Canadians", ranting and raving about having their say in anything to do with Canada or Alberta or other provinces. BC is about to decide whether they want to allow their indigenous premier to let the First Nations claim title to all the land in BC. The indigenous premier of Manitoba is more focused on sharing the land and growing the provincial economy and allowing ALL Manitobans to prosper and not fighting over who owns the land. Kinew seems to be a person who supports both the FIrst Nations and Canada. He is Metis and is a member of both solitudes/entities.
Carney has said that Albertans should vote NO to the other nine questions. Question 5 is "Do you support the Government of Alberta introducing a law requiring individuals to provide proof of citizenship, such as a passport, birth certificate or citizenship card, to vote in an Alberta provincial election?" That would suggest that Carney also supports not having to show valid proof of citizenship to vote in a Canadian federal election. I will encourage my MAGA Republican friends to vote by mail in ballot in the next federal election.
Yes Premier Smith is "conflicted". She is the leader of a political party that doesn't WHIP their members into towing the party line and nodding their bobbleheads in agreement with whatever the boss says. This referendum may allow the status quo in relations with the federal government to be challenged and changed regardless of the response to question 10 in areas such as immigration and the constitution. (The other 9 questions are grouped as such by https://albertareferendum2026.ca/). If Albertans do not want to have another referendum focused on 'separation' but the majority say YES to the other 9 questions, the framework of sovereignty association can be implemented and real change for Alberta and Albertans can occur so that we can retain our motto of "Alberta, Strong and Free."
Exactly what I was thinking. I don’t care what either says really, though I like Pierre and will vote for him in the next election. This is my province and I will vote for a better future for my children.
You have perfectly described federal Canadian politics in 2026. Both these leaders are useless. One is working to keep the status quo, and the other is quietly selling Canada out to the EU, CCP, UN, and WEF. PM Carney saying “united we can be stronger, fairer, freer” is the biggest laugh of the year 😂
A once great country blessed with people, and resources that are the envy of the world, has been declining for years with these elite status quo politicians. Killing the sick, mentally ill, and elderly, ignoring our drug and homeless epidemics while importing millions of the third world is hardly the signs of a Stronger, Fairer, Freer. Free my ass when government violates Canadian’s rights and freedoms constantly, while ignoring our constituition.
David, a fine rant, well done.
