In Part II, Chapter 3 we learn more about Julia, Winston’s lover. She is not exactly a soulmate for Winston as she is not fond of reading or excessive learning. But she is young, only 26, and has an apparently unbounded libido that excites Winston to the core. While Winston stoically accepts that rebellion against the state will sooner or later be discovered and punished, Julia is loath to contemplate that possibility and lives for the moment or just to feel alive.
