Part II, Chapter 1: David Krayden Reads George Orwell's 1984

Part II, Chapter 1

Part II, Chapter 1 recounts the first liaison between Winston and “the girl” with black hair, who, up till now in the book, Winston has regarded with contempt and as an enemy. He even imagines smashing in her head. But after she surreptitiously hands him a note that reads, “I love you.,” Winston is obsessed with meeting her and dreams of holding her tight. Romance is not easily achieved in the Big Brother police state, where one is constantly watched by the authorities and observed by the telescreens, but the two arrange a rendez-vous. Winston proceeds down a path of no return.
